Don't Worry!

Modern stain resistant carpets are better than ever, but prompt removal of spills is still very important! The more time a spill remains on the carpet, the harder it is to remove, because it has time to absorb into the padding. It's possible that over time some spills may cause permanent staining.

The best approach is to pick up as much of the spill as soon as possible. Use a wet/dry vacuum if you have one, or blot as much as you can with a white terry towel. Gently scrape up solids with the edge of a spoon, or like object.

Always blot the spill rather than rubbing (that's very important!). Work from the edges to the center to avoid spreading the problem. Keep an eye on your white towel. As long as you are getting a color transfer from the carpet to the towel, you are making progress.

After picking up as much liquid as possible, you can try to clean the spot, use clean water first. If you have a wet/dry vacuum you can pour clean water on the spill and then immediately vacuum the liquid. Repeat until the area is clean. If needed, use a safe spotting agent (that you tested first on fiber in an inconspicuous area for colorfastness and texture change!). Be sure to thoroughly rinse the spot afterwards, or else you will leave sticky residue from the detergent behind to attract dirt and grime!

NEVER use all-purpose spray cleaners, bleach, or alkaline detergents. YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR CARPET.

If the spill doesn't come out, make sure to remember what it was, so your carpet technician can treat it appropriately.
